Sneak Peak - X-Games - July 29th, 2007 by Chad

As we approach our launch we are testing the transcoder to make sure that it will accept most video formats and properly transcode them into the best quality Flash possible. The Crown room (competition) is coming along pretty well, we have the full schedule of events mapped out over the next 10 months for each sport which consists of 16 qualifying rounds and a final head to head bracket. In order for you to make the final bracket your video must win a qualifying competition which is a two week long competition in a specific category. CXX (webcasts) is in development. At launch you will see a static page with upcoming event info and as time goes on you will be able to view edits of live events and of course archives of the full events. Get ready and excited to use REELcomp.com!!!
The REELcomp Team will be at X-Games this year with a truck full of giveaways for those who can find us ! Keep your eyes peeled during the events because REELcomp has locked in logo placement in several locations, one being in the Home Depot Center. Our buddy Matt Iorio and the Paladin Rally Team has hooked us up with some logo placement on their rally car, which is going to be crazy. I don’t know if you all remember but last year Matt crossed the finish line in a ball a flame due to him ripping off his exhaust system after skying off a jump. Things are heating up here as we get closer to our launch date, we have narrowed down our streaming equipment and will be purchasing next week. The site itself is unexplainable as far as ease of use, customization per user capability and quality of video. We are all very proud of the design and are excited to release it. All of us at REELcomp are long time enthusiast and have a passion for the core board sports. We have built this site for all of the other enthusiasts out there and will do everything we can to make it the best place for surf, skate and snowboard videos to be viewed and competed.

This past weekend the REELcomp Team was in LA meeting with a few webcasting equipment re-sellers and of course our genius design team Mind Medium. Will G. from Volcom was kind enough to let us all stay at his place for the weekend in Hollywood, which really helped us out. We were in Hollywood so yes of course we hit up the streets for a few drinks that turned in to a crazy time on Sunset Blvd. We met with Mind Medium on Monday to go over site details and the site as is. We are using the newest and most advanced technology to create the over all structure, back end and transcoding process on REELcomp.com, which in turn will create one of the most advanced websites on the internet. That my friends is not speculation. Be prepared to start loading your videos in August and enter your best video in the skate competition starting September 2, 2007. The Skate competition starts September 2 with a week window to enter your video followed by a week of voting by REELcomp users. The winner of this first qualifying competition will win cash/prizes and their video will advance to the final bracket for a chance to win a skate vacation for 2.
We were able to hook up with a re-seller of the third mixer board that we were interested in. The team will be locking down the unit we will be ordering by the end of this week. This is a very exciting time as we get closer to being able to go live with our webcasts. Every one involved is excited to begin learning the equipment we will be using.
We are beginning to narrow down our search for a mixer to be used on the CXX portion of our site. There have been many hours of reasearch time spent looking for a unit that will meet our needs and allow for growth as well. We are very interested in three diffrent companies and have already recieved demos on two of the mixers they offer. While out in LA we are trying to hook up with final company and finalize our decision to place an order by early next week.
Yet another successful trip back east for the REELcomp Team. Mark and Chad paid a visit to Rome Snowboards, Burton Snowboards and made some great contacts with the folks over at AB, Monster and Snapple. Our goal is to get some big names on board to provide the best competitions and of course prizes for REELcomp. We are starting to think about the grand prize for each of the brackets such as a heli trip to AK, week long surf trip, or a skate park tour for 10 days in Europe. What is your dream vaca? What do you want to see as a user, after all it is going to be your prize to win ! Lets us know and we will make it happen.
I have been living in Las Vegas for about two years now and I have not seen rain since. I love the mountains, seasons and especially snow; so why LV right? I moved to LV for a job with Bechtel as a Contracts Specialist because they offered me some serious money. After about 12 mo. Mark, Ryan, Brian and I started developing this idea for REELcomp and 18 mo. after moving to LV for my job I quit. I decided I needed to give this a whirl and try to get myself back to mountians, snow, surf and skate. Thats a little side tracked but what I was getting at was I arrived at Logan Airport last Thursday and it has been on and off raining ever since. It is amazing how good rain feels when you haven’t seen or felt it in two years. My sisters wedding was Sat and my girl Katie and I sat at the bon fire late night enjoying our cooler of “refreshments” in the pooring rain.
The REELcomp team ordered a few thousand stickers in three different styles that should be ready to start blasting everywhere by the 13th of July. Check’em out what do you think?
We also ordered a bunch of hats and stylin T’s for those who are lucky to get one. We are in the process of working with Elm Company (elmcompany.com) to get some custom hats all tweaked REELcomp style. For those of you that know Elm Company, you know they do it right !
