Hot Dawgz and Handrails a success - September 21st, 2008 by REELcomp Team

Hot Dawgz + Handrails + Big Bear + 2008 = AWESOME!

Chris Winslow, Clayton Shoemaker and the rest of the Bear Mountain Park Staff created a pre-season setup stocked with all the necessities for a great “first of the year” contest. Complete with a down bar, down-flat-down rail, bomb-drop, and a crazy jump/left-side wall-ride/right-side wall-ride ender, all riders were tested on their skills right from the get-go. Pretty much everything involved in any contest scene was thrown down by the end of the day: 450 bomb-drops, backlips, 270s x 270s, 720s, hand plants, insane transfers, and even a double backie (worth a $1,000 “best trick” no-less).

Big Bear locals Scott Vine, Keegan Valiaka, Chad Tarbell, Zak Hale, Chris Bradshaw and the rest all represented, while other Cali residents Nial Rominek, Johnny Lazzareschi, Nick Visconti, and Chas Guldemond all threw down. The rest of the pack included the likes of Scotty Stevens, Bode Merill, Pat Milbery, Brendan Hayes, Jed Anderson, Leanne Pelosi, Desiree Melancon, Charles Reid, Ben Bogart, etc.; all competing for their take of the $15,000 up for grabs.

After the qualies the finalist endured double flips and gnarly transfers, but in the end Pro judges Seth Hout and JP Walker decided the top three to be:

Women:
1st Place- Desiree Melancon
2nd Place- Marie Hucal
3rd Place- Raewyn Reid

Men:
1st - Jed Anderson
2nd - Chas Guldemond
3rd - Scott Vine
Best Trick - Scott Vine

Big thanks to Big Bear and the Bear Mountain Park Staff for putting together another sick annual event. We’re definitely looking forward to next year. Check in soon for post-production edits of Hot Dawgz & Handrails 2008 here on REELcomp.com.

Workin out the Kinks video Premier - September 15th, 2008 by REELcomp Team

At Once Productions premiered their video Workin out the Kinks on Saturday at the Gothic in Downtown Denver. The doors opened and a crowd battled the line out front waiting to get in. The party started off with Kidd Traxx and Apex Vibe shortly followed them with a few sessions of product toss as well. People got to walk away with a bunch of free gear including Never Summer snowboards and 686 outerwear. The movie started up around 11:00 p.m. and was a top notch film. It had a solid soundtrack and some very good riding in it as well. We were able to grab a few interviews with riders and the production crew as well. The whole event was a success and fun as hell to attend. Big thanks goes out to all the guys over at At Once Productions. Check out the Teaser of Workin Out the Kinks.
