Innovative and Charitable

Some of you may have already seen this site but I just thought that it was pretty innovative. My Charitable Life is a great way to sell you old gear and know that your proceeds are going to a great cause. This site is almost like an ebay but for raising some money for charities too. Check out the athlete stores where some are selling off trips to shred with them and some of their gear for cheap.

Powder at Alpine Meadows

Today was super sick.  The forecast didn’t call for much snow, but it seems like some snow showers stayed right on top of Alpine Meadows all of last night.  This morning brought cold temps, sunny skies and 20+ inches of fresh snow.  The snow that fell was not typical Sierra Cement.  This storm produced Utah-like snow and some of the better conditions I remember in Tahoe.  Check out some of the pictures!

REELcomp Releases Custom Video Contest Platform

Put on your own custom skate, snow or surf branded video contest.

REELcomp recently released a completely customizable video contest platform. As video continues to become more and more popular on the web the next level of video contests had to be created.

REELcomp holds a year round video competition for Skateboarding and Snowboarding, while holding “minicomps” for the surfing community. Each bracket is made up of 16 qualifying rounds that ultimately compete head to head to determine a grand prize winner. The current “minicomp” for surfing is based around the Rincon Classic 2009 event where members submit their video and the winner wins entry into the Rincon Classic, $500 cash and a ton of prizes from the sponsors.

As video contests start popping up on the web REELcomp has developed a solution to putting on your own branded contest without the programming, use of low quality video sites or the mess of accepting videos by mail. This video contest platform can help target your contest and assure entries while using a high quality video platform. The platform allows for customization of the contest as far as the visual appeal, dates ranges, user based voting or a judging panel and in a particular sport (skate.snow.surf) or all three.

Sugarbowl Early Season Shred

We got to get out of the office this weekend for a minute and we decided to head on over to Sugarbowl at the peak of Donner Summit, CA. Last weeks storm was evident with both ample trail coverage with fresh snow as well as herds of people. Considering the late season start the Lake Tahoe area has been dealt, Sugarbowl had an impressive amount of terrain open. We headed straight for the top on the Mt. Lincoln Express quad in search of some high speed groomers that we’d been craving all summer. After warming up the legs we were on the hunt for any stump jibs, log rides, and side hips we could find. Check out a couple of the pics we got from the day of shredding. Oh, by the way we grabbed another Bradley, Tim’s brother Patrick just moved out on the Sugarbowl program and two Bradley’s combined accomplish the work of six men. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, climb out from under the rock, search “tbradley” on the site and see what I mean for yourself. Big thanks to JP Martin at Sugarbowl, please enjoy and pray for more snow!!!

Delta Delta Delta’s 5th Annual Surf, Sand, & St. Jude Surfing Contest Results

Results of the Delta Delta Delta’s 5th Annual Surf, Sand, & St. Jude Surfing Contest & Beach Day presented by Surf Happens on Sunday November 16 at Campus Point, Goleta.

Talk of the recession and recent tea fires were quickly replaced with cheers of joy, laughing children, and the mild braggadocio of proud parents, as community members joined together to help raise money for children’s cancer research at the Delta Delta Delta’s 5th annual surfing contest and beach day, presented by Surf Happens. The event was held on Sunday November 16 at Campus Point, Goleta under sunny skies and 75 degree weather, with mild offshore winds, and 2-4 foot surf prevailing. The fairytale conditions provided the perfect setting for all those on hand to enjoy and participate in the variety of events available to help raise money for the cause.

From the surfing competition, to the sand castle building contest, the learn to surf program, to the beach slip n slide and Indo Boarding, this event truly had something for everyone. By mid morning as the beach scene filled up, and the music pumped, five groms even went head to head in a dance off for free sandals from Deckers, much to the delight of spectators. The vibe was purely Aloha, enabling even the normally intense competitive arena to become fun. In all, over 500 people came down to the event with 82 people in the surfing competion, 17 in the learn to surf program, all the girls from the Tri Delta sorority, and members of the greek and local communities.

While the highly contestable surf at the point enabled participants to showcase their surfing prowess, the inside section had all the juice necessary for the Surf Happens all ages surf lessons. Children raising money for other children with cancer is a pretty amazing concept. Local ripper Henry Hepp (9) carved out double wins in the Mini Chim and Gremlins divisions, while simultaneously Giana Hughes (5) stood up for the first time. Meanwhile 13 members of the Tri Delta sorority also caught their first waves. I don’t know whose smile was bigger, but the stoke was the same.

All those on hand received t-shirts, raffle tickets, and free lunch from Wahoo’s fish tacos, as well as drinks from Pacific Beverage Company and coffee courtesy of Caribbean Coffee. The soul of the event came in the form of Decker’s brand sandals, the locally grown company who donated 40 pairs of sandals for contestants to log on to deckersbrand.com and choose the pair of their choice. Other prizes included Quiksilver and Roxy wetsuits, hats and t-shirts courtesy of Surf Happens, skateboards by Surf One, and more….
