Site Updates - November 18th, 2008 by REELcomp Team

Over the past few weeks we have been working on a few bugs on the site that are driving us nuts as they are with you as well. A lot of you have emailed us to let us know what was bothering you and we thank you for that. We built this site for everyone and to help everyone share their videos, compete, watch webcasts and meet your goals as a filmer, rider or production crew. The more feedback we get from YOU the more we can improve the site and give you what you want. Anyway thanks for your support and if you have 30sec to give us some feed back it would help us continuously improve the site.
Some of the bugs we fixed include the avatar, podcasts are available for select CXX Events, Crown Room styling, introduction to minicomps. We will keep you posted as we add new features to the site.

Please provide us with some feedback

Overseas
The Pirates went overseas to add to their already stellar crew of European riders. This season, North American standouts Mike Casanova and Dan Brisse joined the squad of swashbucklers led by Hans Ahlund and Marko Grilc. Look for banger parts from these guys, and dont sleep on Gigi Rüfs second part of the year, who to quote Pirate Editor Basti Balser, has the iron legs of Austria, stomping tricks on impossibly flat landings. As you can see by the rider list, the Pirate crew is a diverse one—rail riders, jumpers, and backcountry guys all made their way into the lineup, which promises entertainment for every boarding enthusiast. OverSeas also comes with a 100 page art book, so youd be hard pressed to find a reason not to add this to your wish list.

Riders: Dan Brisse, Mike Casanova, Teo Konttinen, Björn Hartweger, Gigi Rüf, Lukas Golller, Marko Grilc, Hannes Metzler, Josh Sherman, David Benedek, Tyler Chorlton, TJ, Kalle Ohlson, Sani Alibabic, Hans Ahlund, Danny Larsen, Eirik Haugo, Osa, Emeric Front, Drew Fuller, Marco Feichtner, and Jocki Köffler.

1st Day of Shred in Lake Tahoe - November 4th, 2008 by REELcomp Team

Last night a nice little storm came through the Lake Tahoe basin and drop anywhere from 6 inches in town to 2+ feet in the higher elevations.  We rounded up a couple of buddies and headed towards the summit of Mt. Rose.  Mt. Rose has the highest elevation around North Lake Tahoe, so we figured it was the place to be.  and of course it was.  It seemed like every local shredder from Tahoe was there getting their fix!  Everyone from Johnny Lazz, Brendan Drury, Jake Devine, Christian Mares, Matty Bothfield, and the crew from VaCa Films was there getting their shred on.  It was a surprise how good the snow was.  After about a 10 minute hike you were in position to get some great turns and pow slashes.  This was definitely the start of the 08/09 season here in Tahoe.  The weather forecast says that we are in an unstable weather pattern, so hopefully the snow will keep falling through the next few weeks!  Let it snow!

Hot Dawgz and Handrails a success - September 21st, 2008 by REELcomp Team

Hot Dawgz + Handrails + Big Bear + 2008 = AWESOME!

Chris Winslow, Clayton Shoemaker and the rest of the Bear Mountain Park Staff created a pre-season setup stocked with all the necessities for a great “first of the year” contest. Complete with a down bar, down-flat-down rail, bomb-drop, and a crazy jump/left-side wall-ride/right-side wall-ride ender, all riders were tested on their skills right from the get-go. Pretty much everything involved in any contest scene was thrown down by the end of the day: 450 bomb-drops, backlips, 270s x 270s, 720s, hand plants, insane transfers, and even a double backie (worth a $1,000 “best trick” no-less).

Big Bear locals Scott Vine, Keegan Valiaka, Chad Tarbell, Zak Hale, Chris Bradshaw and the rest all represented, while other Cali residents Nial Rominek, Johnny Lazzareschi, Nick Visconti, and Chas Guldemond all threw down. The rest of the pack included the likes of Scotty Stevens, Bode Merill, Pat Milbery, Brendan Hayes, Jed Anderson, Leanne Pelosi, Desiree Melancon, Charles Reid, Ben Bogart, etc.; all competing for their take of the $15,000 up for grabs.

After the qualies the finalist endured double flips and gnarly transfers, but in the end Pro judges Seth Hout and JP Walker decided the top three to be:

Women:
1st Place- Desiree Melancon
2nd Place- Marie Hucal
3rd Place- Raewyn Reid

Men:
1st - Jed Anderson
2nd - Chas Guldemond
3rd - Scott Vine
Best Trick - Scott Vine

Big thanks to Big Bear and the Bear Mountain Park Staff for putting together another sick annual event. We’re definitely looking forward to next year. Check in soon for post-production edits of Hot Dawgz & Handrails 2008 here on REELcomp.com.

ROME SDS and Bluebird Wax Video Premieres - September 5th, 2008 by REELcomp Team

Last night REELcomp teamed up with ROME SDS and Bluebird Wax to bring their video premieres of “No Correct Way” and “The Bluebird Movie”, to the world via live webcast. We assumed that it was going to be a crazy night considering the name of the event was “Under the Influence”, however, what went down was utter chaos and ultimately, facility destruction. The ROME and Bluebird crowds combined for a bar owner’s nightmare, and after the sink was ripped off the bathroom wall and the bottle smashing festivities advanced we knew it was history in the making. The bar was full of riders and friends alike, including Chad Otterstrom, Kyle Clancy, Nic Drago, Eddie Wall, Lane Knack, Darrell Mathes, Scotty Arnold, Hana Beaman, Alexis Waite, Mark Carter, Marius Otterstad, Marie-France Roy, John Foy, Casey Neefus, LNP and AM rider Eiki Helgason who celebrated his 21st complete with a bar wide rendition of Happy Birthday as well as the ROME movie Ender! Let’s just say that the night was completely and totally UNDER THE INFLUENCE!
